For immediate release.

Federation Entertainment (Pascal Breton, Lionel Uzan) and Essential Media Group (Greg Quail) announce today the co-development and the co production of Aftermath, an 8 X 52 mins crime drama series set in Australia in 1992 and the present day.

Currently in advanced development, the series will be presented to the international market at Content London.

Aftermath is an original series created by director, Erin White, whose directing credits include Sando, Doctor Doctor and Squinters.

Two forty-something estranged high school best friends reunite when they pursue a cold case – the murder of their handsome art teacher twenty-eight years before; the only problem is, one of them already confessed to the crime and spent ten years behind bars for it.

Erin White: ‘’It’s no secret that the experiences of women as victims has received great attention in recent times, and now a new wave of understanding of the lives of women has arisen. In trying to interpret this new understanding as a generator of story, I want to express the strength and power of women to rise above victimization. That’s the key emotional driver of the story.”

Emotionally, the series will pack the punch of shows like Big Little Lies with its exploration of female friendships and social politics; Top of the Lake’s searing emotional trajectory in the character’s journey to doggedly pursue truth and justice; a duo of two strong women grappling with an overwhelming investigation in Unbelievable; or Broadchurch, for a narrative arc with many surprising twists and red herrings that keeps the audience guessing at every turn.

An award-winning multi-genre company, Essential Media Group is one of Australia’s leading producers of high quality content for both local and international audiences. Its drama portfolio includes Rake, Jack Irish, Doctor Doctor, The Principal and the Disney movie Saving Mr Banks starring Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson. Essential Media currently has several scripted projects in development with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, Sky New Zealand and Acorn TV.

The series will be produced by Michelle Hardy, VP of Scripted at Essential Media.
